Marcus’ road to success
APM’s approach to helping people find and secure meaningful employment is a whole-person approach, we care about each and every customer and help them to manage multiple aspects of their life.
When Marcus Read lost his father in April 2018, he found the grief increasingly difficult to cope with. Although he was struggling to get out of bed in the morning, thanks to the support and encouragement of his girlfriend, he was able to contact us in order to get help.
When he and his girlfriend came into our centre, Marcus was introduced to Nikki Tutt, one of our Employability and Skills Coaches. Nikki sat with Marcus and listened to him, giving him support and guidance he needed to set up a meeting with a counsellor in order to help him deal with his grief.
Once Marcus was in a place to think about getting back into work, Nikki was able to enrol him onto our employability programme. Marcus successfully completed his programme and went on to get the qualifications he needed for jobs in street maintenance and construction through Streetworks and CSCS courses.
Marcus has since started work with Road Markings Excel, an independent specialist in road markings. Where he is very much enjoying his job as a Road Construction Worker.
Marcus visited the APM centre in December to deliver Christmas gifts for the staff and to say thank you for the support and guidance he received whilst with APM.
“APM helped me through a very difficult time and I don’t feel that I would be where I am now if it was not for their support. The staff were so supportive and were really open to help me in any way they could. I would highly recommend APM to anyone who needs help to gain employment or further training”.
