Work Routes Coach, Alison Hodgens got to know Danny and was able to tailor the programme to his interests and needs. Due to learning difficulties, Danny attended a special needs school and when he left he had very few qualifications.
Danny had a passion for superheroes and games, so Alison developed a plan that combined these things with the goals that Danny needed to achieve.
D.P was the super hero that needed to journey through different levels, only moving to the next when the previous had been completed.
This was based on putting Danny’s CV and covering letter together.
This included learning how to introduce himself and use his CV with employers in the local area in order to apply for roles.
This involved preparing and practice for interviews, including communicating and presenting.
This was the winning level! The goal to secure work and getting ready for day 1!
This tailored approach meant that Danny was really enthusiastic and wanted to move through the levels to the best of his ability. Attending each week he was determined to win the game. One of the challenges he faced was learning to tell the time. Danny would practice this with Alison by drawing clock faces in order to be tested. To improve his maths skills Danny also attended a course at APM and passed his entry level 3 first time.
Increasing in confidence and ability, Danny started to search for jobs – this helped him to improve his PC skills.
After spotting a suitable job for Danny, Alison called the company, Adept Cleaning Services, and spoke to Managing Director, Alan Thompson. Alison introduced Danny, Alan agreed to interview him the next day. Danny was successful at his interview and he started work the following Monday, where he was trained by Alan himself.
Danny loves his job. and has since increased his hours to 3 days a week.
